Brinlee is a feature-length true-crime documentary that chronicles the life and crime acts of northeastern Oklahoma's most notorious criminal, Rex Brinlee. While several communities fell victim to his "Big City" style of crime, the small town of Tahlequah, Oklahoma seemed to bear the brunt of Brinlee's seemingly limitless scope of intimidation, violence, and murder. With his ability to intimidate or eliminate witnesses, and his willingness to use explosives to settle personal or business-related conflicts, the citizens of Tahlequah were hostage to the level of criminality major metropolitan cities like New York or Chicago could expect.
Adapted from "Rex Brinlee: The Man and His Escape" by Jack Reavis and several interviews with those that lived thru his reign of terror in Tahlequah in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Brinlee sheds light on a period of time in northeastern Oklahoma that many would like to forget, and many born after those events aren't aware of. By sifting thru oral and written history, shooting live-action recreations, as well as recording interviews with several key individuals, DIrector Jeremy Scott's aim is to create a vivid, at times graphic, depiction of big-city crime invading smalltown Oklahoma.
Brinlee marks the second collaboration between Producer BJ Baker and Scott. The two previously paired up to produce a documentary about legendary Cherokee County Oklahoma Sheriff Grover Bishop. "Grover Bishop: Making of a Legend" is available for free streaming at groverbishop.com.
